Z Frequency: A Harmonious Journey from Layton, Utah

In the heart of Layton, Utah, where the mountains echo with suburban secrets, Z Frequency thrives. This multi-genre fusion—rock, reggae, ska, and alternative—is more than a band; it’s a living, breathing experiment in sonic alchemy.

Zak Davis, our visionary frontman, ignited this musical fire. Inspired by the legendary Oingo Boingo, Zak’s soul resonated with Danny Elfman’s haunting vocals. He knew then that music would be his life’s compass. But Zak’s journey wasn’t solitary; it was a symphony of influences. From the raw energy of punk to the soulful whispers of blues, every note shaped his musical identity.

The saga began in 1991 when Zak crossed paths with Matt Allen at a local amusement park. Together, they embarked on a cosmic odyssey—playing shows, writing anthems, and leaving their mark on the Utah music scene. Catfische, their two-year musical escapade (1996-1998), left audiences spellbound. Then came the Hoo Ray Who? era—a three-year whirlwind of gigs and creative frenzy.

But amidst the chaos, Zak harbored a secret project: Z Frequency. It simmered quietly, waiting for its moment. The pandemic hit, sidelining the progress, but Zak’s determination burned brighter. With Matt still rocking alongside him in the reunited Hoo Ray Who?, Zak rekindled the Z Frequency flame.

What sets us apart? Aside from the steady rotation of different musicians and collaborations on each new song, it’s our genre-bending magic. We don’t merely blend rock, reggae, ska, and alternative; we weave them into a sonic tapestry.

“Z Frequency,” raves L-Town Magazine, “is a musical experience not to be missed—a kaleidoscope of sound that transcends boundaries.”

And so, dear listeners, join us on this harmonic voyage, our ship sails on new music each month, and live performances await. The stage awaits your footsteps. The frequency awaits your heartbeats.

Stay tuned. The best is yet to come. 🎵🌟
